  1. Cool facts:

1.A shark may grow and use over 20,000 teeth in its lifetime!

2.Sharks never run out of teeth.  If one is lost, another spins forward from the rows and rows of backup teeth.

3.Sharks never get cancer, their cartilage is being studied in the hope of developing anti-cancer drugs.

4.Their skin is made of denticles instead of ordinary fish scales.  The denticles are constructed like hard, sharp teeth and help to protect the shark from injury.

5.Sharks can sense a drop of blood from 2.5 miles away. They can detect one part of blood in 100 million parts of water.

6.Sharks can generate about six and a half tons per square inch of biting force.

7.Sharks can go up to at least 6 weeks without feeding. The record for a shark fasting was observed in an aquarium with the Swell Shark, which did not eat for 15 months.

  2. Sharks are not only covered with dermal denticles, which means "skin teeth," they are also covered with taste buds, so all a shark needs to do to make sure you're edible is to rub up against you.  Many victims of shark attach were merely being tasted, not attacked.

You know how sharks are always seen circling life rafts?  Ever wonder how they know how there's something edible in there, even though nobody's bled in the water?  They may not have bled overboard, but they dumped pee overboard, which sharks can sense as readily as blood.

I used to hold the world's record for the longest canoe trip, at 8,070 miles, and we had sharks around us almost from our first day in the Gulf of Mexico, but when we stopped pouring urine over the side, we never saw another shark.  I would be willing to bet that almost everybody that has ever been attacked by a shark either just relieved himself or herself, or they relieved themselves some time ago in their wet suits and had been leaving a trail for any hungry shark to follow ever since.  No wonder most people never even see the shark before it hits them.  They weren't looking behind them.

If you ever dive in the open ocean in a wet suit NEVER pee in it, never let anyone else use it, no matter what, and never borrow someone else's wet suit.

  3. -while it is believed that sharks will die if they stop swimming, this is not so, a shark lacks buoyancy as it does not have any small air sacs (like fish) and lacks the ability to swallow small stones, grit and sand (once again like fish) when they do stop swimming they simply sink, they usually stop swimming while sleeping (though this applies to smaller sharks, larger sharks must continue moving as thier own weight would crush themselves if they rested for to long on the sea floor)

    - have no eye lids

    -sense by smell underwater

-can small one drop of blood in water for upto 20 km away

-eyesight is worse then that of a bat

-create the largest eggs out of all other egg producing animals worldwide

-babies are known to consume sibblings either for shggles or to get stronger while in their embryotic sac
