With cornflower blue accents and orange toned Ikea furniture, neutral beige carpeting. Too much? Out of date?

perhaps you can try a Mediterranean look, use colours that go with the orange furniture than do a feature wall perhaps in blue. You may also consider an interesting painting technique like suede effect or bagging. good luck!
