Question:

Cool or not cool to play live gig with electronic drums?

I've been practicing with a band for about a month now and we're getting ready to play some live bar-type gigs. My band-mates say it's okay to play w/ my electronic drums, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any thoughts on it? Or have you ever seen a drummer play live w/ electronic drums? It's a Roland TD3KW rig.

  1. I've never gone to a show where the drummer uses an electric drumset. Yes it would be easier to plug an electric up to a PA system but people want to look at the band as well as listen. A electric drumset is great for practicing and recording, no doubt. If you don't have an acoustic kit, I'd go head and play with the electric.

And by the way, great electric drumset :)

  2. Yes it would look a little different, but that's okay. I use acoustic drums, but most of them are triggered so it's almost the same as using electronic drums.

  3. do you play 80's new wave music ? I think it would be weird , but if the club is OK with it then go for it.

  4. i went to a smokey robinson concert, and his drummer used an electronic set, but he also used real cymbals with it....I also believe the band YES uses electronic drums. It seems perfectly fine. And just think, you wont have to mic a real drumset. Just plug in and play. hope this helps
