I will be there, like i said for 2 weeks, for training for my job, i will have a little free time for fun. I will be staying near the airport. What are some places I must see?! Looking for good shopping, sight seeing, great food, lemme know! Ive only been there once, and didnt see much. I wont have a car, so a cheap taxi or public trans will be best! Thanx for any info!

  1. Yes, the Space Needle is a cool option and though very "touristy", it's really cool and you do get cool views/pictures up there! The food up there is actually pretty good, though a bit pricey, and has vastly improved over years ago.

The Fun Forest is right at the foot of the Space Needle and has a decent roller coaster and other amusement park rides there.

The EMP (Experience Music Project) is a museum that was Paul Allen's conception and hasn't been quite the big draw that he'd hoped for initially. It's a music museum, but isn't nearly as interesting as many hoped, including myself (and I was REALLY excited because I'm a musician!).

Across the street from the EMP is the start of the Ride The Ducks tour, which is pretty cheesy, but also fun! It's tours given on these large amphibious vehicles, so you can go from land to water and back and get a pretty good view of the city!

Pike Place Market is the other most commonly thought of place to visit in Seattle. It's a great market with an open-air market above and other cool shops below in the downstairs areas. There are great foods, fresh produce and seafood, the "flying fish" thrown around by the fishmongers, and more! The first Starbucks is right at Pike Place, across the brick street.

Archie McPhee's is just one of the coolest shops around! There's all sorts of quirky, wierd, and fun things to browse through here. This is up in Ballard on Market and is a little ways out of downtown (like 10-15 minutes driving), but is a really cool store to find the best gifts to take back home! Also, Ballard has heaps of good bars and restaurants these days, on top of all the condos they're putting in!

If you like biking, the Burke Gilman Trail offers you a good "tour" through Seattle, going from the Fremont area and cutting past Gasworks Park (a really cool park to stop and hang out at right on Lake Union!), through Wallingford and into the University District, running right next to the University of Washington. If you keep continuing on, you can get excellent views of Lake Washington as the trail loops around the north end of Lake Washington right near the water, before looping back around on the east side of the lake. You can rent bikes at many places (http://www.cascade.org/Community/rental....

The Washington State Ferries are a great ride and affordable yet fun and beautiful way to relax! You don't even have to get off at the destination side, if you just want a nice ride, but there are a number of different destinations from the waterfront.

Good shopping...  Bellevue's Bellevue Square area is one of the most popular and has been working on becoming the high-end shopping district of the Seattle area.  Close to the airport, Southcenter Mall in Tukwila (very close to the airport, actually) has just had its grand reopening and has been remodeled and is a great place for shopping!  People are pretty excited about the H & M that just opened up at Southcenter, as the only and first one to come to Seattle.

Oh yeah...  On transportation...  You can catch the 194 and/or the 174 (both Metro buses) to and from Seatac to downtown Seattle.  This will be your cheapest option of transportation and they run pretty frequently.  A taxi would be a bit spendy for two weeks' travel back and forth, unless you can write it off later.

  2. REnt a car if you can!

Go downtown and see the Space Needle, beautiful views there!!!  Also go to the Public Market and see the fish tossers and vendors they have there.

Go to Mt Rainier and Snoqualmie Falls- it's absolutely breathtaking

Olympia- the state capitol is a very pretty place also take a walk around the capitol building and the water front and if you go there you HAVE to stop at OLD SCHOOL PIZZARIA  it's the best place ever.

  3. As far as great food goes, try these recommendations out:

    The Canlis Restaurant

    2576 Aurora Ave N

    Abbondanza Pizzeria

    6503 California Ave SW

    Ponti Seafood Grill

    3014 3rd Ave N

    Piecora's NY Pizza & Pasta

    1401 E Madison St

These have all been highly rated.

    Enjoy!

  4. Take the bus downtown.  Just a few bucks.  See Pike Place Market, Space Needle, Experience Music Project (right under Space Needle), Pacific Place Mall & Westgate Mall right downtown are nice for shopping.  Dine at Fox Sports Grill for some good sports (right by Pacific Place Mall).  Just walking around anywhere near those malls is fun to people watch.  See if you can catch a Mariner or Seahawk game.  Both stadiums are state-of-the-art and tickets can be found by scalpers on the street.  Face value or less usually if you go in near game time.  Downtown good eats are Rock Bottom (5th Ave), Gordon Biersch (Pacific Place Mall), McCormick & Schmicks (a couple downtown), Metropolitan Grill, and The Brooklynn.  Lots of strip bars out by the airport and I'm sure there's a rinky-dink casino or two.  GREAT casino up in Marysville (35 min N of Seattle) called Tullalip.  Very nice real Vegas feel to it and BIG.  Have fun.

  5. Seattle HEMPFEST will be on 8/16-17/08 , for free, at Myrtle Edwards Park. Lots of music on 5 stages, impressive line up of speakers, tons of vending&food. 100,000 people show up each day! No big hassles from the cops!  It's 420 ALL DAY!

  6. You can take a bus pretty much to anywhere in Seattle. You can also take free rides from and to anywhere within the downtown area (limited to certain hours).

Recommended sightseeing: Space Needle, Pioneer Square, Pike Market, Alki Beach, University of Washington (it's huge & has its own zip code! See beautiful architectures, botanical garden, fountain etc.), Queen Anne (you can see Lake Union from the hill top location)

Recommended shopping: downtown (Pacific Place, Barney's, Nordstrom Rack, etc.), Southcenter Mall (near airport), Premium Outlet (up north - great bargains!), University Village (outdoor mall, UW area)

Recommended restaurants: Hole in the Wall (bbq, near Pioneer Square - the best chilli!), Wing Dome (simply the best & spiciest wings!), Draft Tofu Korean Rest., Ocean City (Chinese food in Chinatown), Dixie's (bbq, great brisket & don't miss The Man!), Wasabi Bistro (sushi), Mamma Melina (Italian)

If you decide to rent a car, you should check out Snoqualmie Falls (sightsee) and German Town (sightsee & good sausages)

Wish you an awesome time in Seattle!

  7. just got back from Seattle a few days ago.  Pikes market place is a must (bring your wallet...there is so many unique things to buy)  of course the space needle (16 bucks to go up) but don't eat at their restaurant ($25 burgers...imagine what a steak would be)  take a bus, cabbies charge way too much...or think about renting a vehicle if you will be there for two weeks (probably save you some change if you are taking a bus a cab every where)  the marina is beautiful and so is the drive down alkiv strip. (sp? lol) Take a fairy ride where they take you to see killer whales and eat at a place called salty's...they sit you by a large aquarium filled with seals.  Also you can ride the ducks and do the underground tour of the city.  Hope this helps and have fun...I sure did.

  8. Space needle but do not eat there cause the food isn't all that great. Spaghetti factory is a must if you like spaghetti. Go to Southcenter mall they just opened up a whole bunch of new clothing stores like H&M.  Most of the new stores are 2 storys. Go to seattle center which is right next to the space needle it has like a canival-ish thing in there. Go to downtown seattle and walk around the area cause IT'S HUGE! and the shopping is GREAT!  and the number one thing you should check out is PIKE PLACE MARKET. It's next to the water you can buy fresh fish, flowers, seafood, candy, and etc. You should go on this tour  called ride the ducks where your riding around town learning about the history and then it goes into the water touring you around heres the website

    http://www.ridetheducksofseattle.com/his...

also check out the outlet mall in tulalup! it's amazing!

    have fun!!!!
