Question:

Cool wild painting designs?

I have 6 different bright colors I want to paint my room. I'm allowed to paint everything. Ceilings, closet, walls, everything. My mom thinks that it would be cool to paint it like a circus bigtop tent with all of the colors coming down in triangles from one point on the ceiling. I think it's a good idea, but I want some other ones to give me options. I'm open to painting designs or solid colors. Each wall can be different!! Any ideas????

  1. i've sold paint all my adult life, but i'm really conservative about colors (that means boring :) but, i'd say, go to a local paint dealer (a REAL dealer, not home depot or sherwin williams) and ask if they have any magazines. (pottery barn has a nice mag, so does paint & decorating retailer) being in the business for so long, i've seen some cool stuff in the mags they send the stores free and they just toss em out, usually... they'll probly even give you a stack of em. if you decide to do shapes, be sure to use expensive tape, the cheap stuff will just bleed and give you crappy lines.

try pittsburgpaints.com or benjaminmoore.com, they have some good online tools, too. just so you know, i don't work for any of those companies anymore, i'm not spamming ya :)

  2. You Can Paint your wall any color you like, then take a glaze (Buy at Loews) tape off stripes vertically and paint every other stripe with the poly.  After this dries, remover the vertical tape and do the same thing horizontally.  This gives a really cool look!

Scenic paint has many really intense colors if you cannot find what you want with regular paint (Although they have pretty much anything you need).

  3. I would paint the wall my headboard is against one solid color. Then I would use a broad paint brush (like 3" wide) to paint big arcs of 2 other colors on that wall and let it dry. I would put 2 different colors in squirt bottles (like dishwashing liquid comes in) and squirt big swooping patterns over the other design already on there for a huge abstract painting effect. Use lots of drop cloths on the floor!! : o

I would pick out one of the paintbrushed colors and paint the other three walls of the room in that so they tied into the "fine art" wall. Finally, I would use the last color of the 6 to paint all the trim woodwork. You'd get to use all of your 6 colors but you could change up the theme of the room to whatever you wanted by doing it this way.
