  1. Monte Verde as it upset the "Clovis First" community. The site is located in the far south  of Chile. Due to superb preservation, many artifacts were recovered almost intact. These included a child's footprint and a chewed wad of medical plant.

The site has been dated to some 16,000 years before the present (BP). Until now, conventional scientists held that man entered the Americans along an ice free corridor that opened between 10,000 to 11,500 years ago. Within a thousand years man had reached the end of the South American continent.

The Monte Verde dates far exceed the most optimistic dates for an ice free corridor. In other words, man was far into the Americas before the ice age had retreated and opened a route south.

Several other sites, Medowcroft and Cactus Hill, both on the East coast of North America also produced very old dates. Cactus Hill has a Clovis layer followed by a deeper and earlier Pre-Clovis layer. Clovis is the name given to what was thought to be the "first" inhabitants of the Americas. Now it seems there were others before them.

The Pre-Clovis sites have all been challenged. Several sites, there's one in Brazil with a claimed date of 30,000 years ago, have problems with accurate dating and contamination. Monte Verde was attacked earlier this year. However, most of the criticism centered on number of artifacts and recording.

  2. Jamestown, Any dig in London... they are finding alot of really cool plague pits and romano-british artifacts.

  3. Now, with the global warming, some areas in Alaska and, the far North where we believe the early inhabitants of the Americas came through, have been uncovered for the first time in human history.

I think it would be beyond the imagination to dig in these areas to see what cam be found. Both land animals and humans.
