Cooling system flush...how to?

so i thought about buying a flush kit that you hook a water hose up to, but then some people will say only put distilled water in, so..would this method work? simply pull the petcock and let it drain until it stops draining. measure the amount you drained. plug it up and refill with that same volume of your antifreeze/water mix. Drive the car around for a week. next weekend do the same thing. If you do this 3-4 times, surely you've got all the old stuff out, right?

  1. Typically when I want to flush my system, I head straight for a Mexican restaurant.  I would love it if it would be a cool sensation but it is typically very VERY hot and painful.  Sometimes it even fogs my glasses up and I need my wife to come wipe them off because I cant let go of the walls due to the shear pain I am in.  As for driving around in a car when flushing your system, well thats just plain risky.

Bottom Line:  Dont eat the Jalapeno's, they'll getcha everytime!

  2. Using distilled water is important or you will have mineral deposits in the cooling system.

  3. I open the petcock..

    Let it drain....

stick the hose in the top of the radiator

run the hose till it drains clear

    shut off hose, finish draining

    close petcock....

    fill with anti-freeze...

start engine and run until thermostat opens.fill with water from hose..

    check freezing point

    put on cap..fill overflow tank..

if it needs more work than this.. it goes to the radiator shop....
