Question:

Cop lets dog die while ticketing owner. Is this right?

This video was just released of a cop detaining a man while he was rushing his dog to the vet to save its life. The cop began to become angry that the man was in a panic and detained him for 20 minutes while his dog was choking and eventually died in the car. His argument was that human life was more sacred than the dogs, and speeding to the vet was the owner being 'stupid'. Do you think the cop was right in doing this? Or do you think he went on power trip and let the dog die because he knew he could?

Here is the link to the video from the cops dash cam. (Note - no worries it is a Yahoo News video on yahoo.com)

(NOTE - You do not ever see the dog in the video, even then it is still quite sad. The dog was a miniature poodle)

  1. that couple that owned that dog can report the officer and then most likely take him to court...yes the cop was in the right to pull him over for speeding but then the cop should have gave an excort as soon as he seen that the dog was in medical need to see a vet...what he did was animal abuse and it is the law to save or ty to save an animal that is in need of a vet..animal cops speed to gt pets to the vet if serioully need it and that cop should have treated it the same way...it is a shame that that cop is like that and should be reported...

  2. This cop needs to be charged with Animal Cruelty! What he did was uncalled for, and the dog might have made it, had it not been for him detaining the owner. The comment he made by saying, "It's just a dog! You can get another one", sets me off big time. If the cop was that concerned about the other people on the road, he could have personally escorted this owner to the vet. What a pathetic excuse for a human being, this cop is?I hope he's happy now, since he is the one, who contributed to the poor dog dying. I feel really bad for the owners, they must be so devastated and heartbroken! If that was my dog, I would definitely take some kind of action against that cop!

  3. The cop was a jerk and wanted  to show his power over someone! He's what people call a bully Cop, not all police  officers are like this. This one probably got his *** kicked everyday in school. I would file a compliant against the Flash-light cop and his department.

  4. so what your saying is that it is ok for the man to kill PEOPLE by speeding to save an ANIMAL...im sorry i like animals too i own one that i adore....but im not willing to put PEOPLES safety at risk at the end of the day its an animal

  5. i think that cop should be left in a car choking.

  6. Power trip.

He should of escorted them to oth vet and if need be ticketed the man then.

I would hav gotten violent in that situaton and made it worse. No one is going to force me to just sit around while my pet is dying. No effin' way.

    edit:

watched the video. I would have hit him. No doubt. What a douche. Total douche "You can get anothr one"

That's when I would of hit him. BS. hOrrible excuse for a cop.

  7. The cop was insensitive and definitely on a power trip. They are suppose to protect and serve. He should have followed the man to the vet and then give him a speeding ticket there. Not leave the dog, or any other animal, to suffer like that.

That whole "you can just buy another dog" thing is disgraceful. This cop should be suspended for saying such a thing. Verbal reprimands are useless when it comes to people like this. What's next? Pulling someone over for speeding whose wife is in labor at the hospital and saying "You can be there for the next one"? Suspend him without pay for a month, then put him on crosswalk duty for a year.

Mr. Constable man, I know it was you that gave me a thumbs down. I don't know how the cops work in the UK, but here in the USA, they are suppose to protect and SERVE, not be power-tripping jerks who let people or animals suffer.

  8. That is terrible - he should have escorted the man to the vets office.

  9. The man was speeding yes.

But he didn't kill anyone and nobody died as a result of his speeding but a dog did die as a result of the cop not taking into consideration the life of a fellow animal.

The cop could have easily helped the people get to the vet quicker and then ticketed the guy once at the vet's office. It was his duty as a police officer to assist in such a matter.

  10. I think the policeman should have driven them all to the vet.

At least they would have all gotten there safetly.

    How sad.

  11. The man should certainly not put anyone (human or animal) at risk of death through poor driving but i sure hope that cop was sacked!  He had no 'people skills';  noticing a very distressed man all he could think of was to yell 'calm down' how can that be in their training? It is all the same if it WAS a child in the car dying he should have at least checked out what the problem was!  And so what if he didn't care if the dog died?  Who is he- God!  it is not up to him whether any animal should die! And he had no right in saying so.  It is all very sad for the couple and the dog.

  12. As a dog lover and soon to be special constable (for non-UK residents that is a voluntary cop) i think this Police officer did the right thing.

When the Chap gets out of the car he is clearly agitated and not thinking straight. To drive at speed the driver must have extreme clarity of thinking.

Whilst it is upsetting that the dog died, there is no way the police could let the driver back into the car.

It was a tough decision for the police and one based on preservation of life, Human Life.

Whilst they family might be upset at the loss of their dog, how would they feel if they killed someone due to reckless driving.

    This is a no-brainer.

I knew I was going to get lots of thumbs down for this post but I am not justifing what the police officer did, nor am I suggesting that he did the right thing, Bear in mind we didn't see the whole video.

  13. I think it was correct for the officer to pull the guy over, but I think he should have provided an escort to the emergency clinic when he verified the situation.  Not only could the officer see the dog's condition, but there was a woman in the car as well also pleading!

Unfortunately, there are no ambulances for dogs so the only way to get them medical help quickly is to driver yourself.  However, it should be done in a safe manner!

  14. The b*****d cop should have given him a police escort to the vet.

  15. As a dog owner and a decent human being (the owner of a miniature poodle as it happens) I am appalled by this action.  The cop should be taken out and retrained to be more humane.  Whatever happened to the kind cop who would, when faced with a frantic owner taking his pet to the vet, give him a police escort to ensure the safety of the driver and other road users and ultimately save the life of the pet?  Perhaps cops should be trained in compassion as well as the law?  This was a "jobsworth" if ever I saw one and he should be suspended without pay and the dog owner should be compensated for the crass actions of this cop.

  16. lol...the cop in a car choking, i think the chances if the man getting in an accident are slim. I can understand the cop's side, but maybe he shoud've like escorted the man and his dog there, that way is safer and FASTER!!!

  17. the cop was just showing off his powers! what a d**k he should lose his job and have to pay the owner compensation!

i wouldn't even have stopped for the copsn if it was my dog

  18. Yeah he was speeding, but a pet is a part of the family he shouldn't have called the dog the names he did. WRONG! He can speed, escort him to the vet. How do you think the cop would have liked it if he had to sit there when his dog was dying?! Some people need to think this is VERY wrong, he shouldn't have been going that fast but still wrong! In so many ways.  :[
