Copa America Match Report – http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Colombia-c2873 vs Peru – Extra time
After spending ninety minutes, trying to get something out of each other and going close on a number of occasions, both Peru and Colombia cancelled each other out and as a result, headed into extra time.
Almost immediately after the start of extra time, it seemed like Peru jumped into 5th gear. The team was stringing together a number of passes and Vargas in particular looked sublime.
In the 92nd minute, Vargas surged forward and cut inside from the left. He then went on to take a shot at goal, only for Martinez to make a last ditch save, to tip the ball away and out of danger.
In the 99th minute, Rodallega won the ball in the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peru-c2981 half and went on to play Armero a decent pass. The full-back then went on to get into a one-on-one situation, but his lack of experience upfront came into play, as he smacked his effort off
the keeper.
In the 101st minute, Vargas whipped in a free-kick into the Colombia area. Martinez rushed forward to punch the ball away, however, the keeper managed to collide with his defenders and tumbled over. Since the opposition didn’t cause the keeper
to fall down, the referee couldn’t blow the whistle to stop play. Lobaton, who was poaching just outside the area, went on to latch the loose ball into the roof of the net, with one of the cleanest strikes the tournament has seen. As a result, Peru were now
leading the game by one goal to nil.
From then on, it was all Peru as they began to run the show. The team seemed to be running on an extra tank of gas, as they just didn’t feel the pressure of playing over ninety minutes of football.
Then in the 112th minute, Vargas went on to smack the ball into the back of the net, after a howler from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martinez-c24468 and as a result, secured the victory for Peru.
Colombia tried to fight back into the game, but their efforts were futile, as Peru ensured their spot into the semi-finals of the Copa http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/America-c38390.
