Paraguay had given it their all, throughout the course of the tournament.
Right from the start of the game, Uruguay tired to take the game to their opponents. Suarez looked to a thorn in the Paraguayan’s side, as he looked to tease them time and time again.
In the 12th minute, it was Suarez, whose pressure ultimately led to the opening goal of the game. A pass was played forward, however the pass managed to take a deflection as it found its way to the forward. However, from then on it was all Suarez.
The forward went on fake a shot, before cutting back and smashing a shot to the left, into the back of the net.
From then on, it was all Uruguay. The team kept attacking their opponents, who couldn’t do much, apart from holding their lines and trying to keep themselves in the game.
What was interesting, was the fact that despite all their attacking, the Paraguayan defence was quite solid.
In the 41st minute, the near flawless defence went on to suffer a momentary lapse. The ball fell to Arevalo, who was given time to cut the ball back to his right, before playing a pass to Forlan. The prolific forward then went on to lash onto
the ball with his left foot, as he buried it into the back of the net.

Soon after, the half time whistle was blown and both the teams headed down, looking at completely different tactics to be used in the second half.
