Peru took on Venezuela in a third place, play-off in the Copa America. Going into the game, there were no clear favourites, as no one really expected either team to go as far as they had in the tournament. Nonetheless, following a red card to Rincon, Peru went on to dominate the game in the latter stages and ended up coming out on top, by scoring four goals to one.
Fernandez: The Peru keeper barely had anything to do throughout the course of the game. He ended up making a few saves and also picked the ball out of his net on one occasion.
Yotun and Revoredo: The two wing-backs were lively throughout the course of the game. They got up forward often and then fell back to defend on a number of occasions. All in all, they had a very decent and solid game on the night.
Corzo, Rodriguez and Ramos: The three centre backs dominated the Venezuelan strikers for the most part. They were well coordinated and barely left any room between them, as a result, they opposition found it hard to break them down.
Cruzado, Lobaton and Balbin: Cruzado and Balbin played a more central role, while Lobaton played the attacking midfielders role. The midfield linked the defence with the attack fluidly and looked to control the run of things for the most part.
Guerrero and Chiroque: The two Peru strikers were sublime in the game. Both of them scored the goals for their team, with Guerrero picking up three and Chiroque scoring his first ever goal for his country. Guerrero’s pace and strength were crucial near the end of the game, as they helped prevent a very late and spirited come back from the Venezuelans. The striker also went on to land the man of the match award and is now in line to lift the golden boot, once the tournament comes to an end.
