Uruguay and Paraguay went on to face each other in the final game of the Copa America 2011. With the game requiring everyone to bring their ‘A’ game to the pitch, it was the Uruguayans, who edged past the Paraguayans, as they went on to beat them by three
goals to nil. Here is a look at just how the team performed in the game.
Muslera: The goal keeper was as good as not being present on the pitch. During the ninety minutes, he only had to make two real saves, both of which he made with ease.
Lugano and Coates: The two centre backs played brilliantly during the game. They kept their opponents out and didn’t have any lapses at the back. As a result, they helped keep Muslera free. Coates picked up a yellow card during the game.
Caceres and Pereira: The two full-backs, just like their central defensive partners, were rather brilliant. They went up often, to help out with the attack and then dropped back just in time, to prevent their side getting hit on the counter. Pereira went
on to pick a yellow card during the course of the game.
Gonzalez and Arevalo: The two central midfielders, were quite good to say the least. They carried the team forward and went on to create a number of chances for their team. Arevalo went on to pick up an assist in the game.
Pereira and Perez: The two wide players didn’t really have much to do in the game, considering most of the attack came down the middle. Nonetheless, they got forward often and contributed to the team’s victory.
Suarez and Forlan: The two strikes were phenomenal during the game. They both got on the score sheet and proved to be a little too hot to handle. In the end, it was their flawless movement upfront, which eventually led to Uruguay winning the Copa America.
