Copa Del Rey: Atletico Madrid vs Espanyol – First Half Report (Part 2)
(Read the first part http://www.senore.com/Copa-Del-Rey-Atletico-Madrid-vs-Espanyol-First-Half-Report-Part-1-a49233)
While Atletico Madrid pushed forward, it was the Uruguayan star striker Diego Forlan who kept dominating up front. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-c33030 Aguero was the one who made runs through in order to find the ball at his feet and it was a shot during the 11th minute that
totally got the crowd on its toes. The Argentinean striker drifted past two strikers and took a right footed shot that brushed past the far post. It was definitely a breath taking effort but the Argentinean was simply unlucky.
Speaking of unlucky, the home team were unlucky to lose their important striker Diego Forlan right after 14 minutes. While making a pass, the Uruguayan decided to kick the ball outside because he looked to be in severe pain. Diego Forlan fell down holding
his right leg as he looked to be in extreme pain. It looked as if he had suffered a thigh injury and it was definitely something that Atletico Madrid didn’t want. The home team’s coach decided not to take any risk with his favourite striker and decided to
take him out as Diego Forlan was stretchered out. Diego Da Silva http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Costa-c9458 was the player who made way on the ground as he got substituted early into the game.
The coming minutes of the game were to be packed with excitement even though the best player on the pitch missed out the whole action due to injury. The game started to become physical after the 20th minute as yellow cards started to fly around.
During the 21st minute, Javi Marquez got the first yellow card because of an awful challenge on the Portuguese winger Simao. Later, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordi-Amat-c19112 got the yellow card for a bad tackle in the penalty area as Atletico Madrid got a penalty kick. The Portuguese
winger Simao made sure that he scores from the spot kick and he did to put the home team in front.
Everything was going fine for the Madrid side until their midfielder Jose Antonio Reyes was red carded for a bad high-stud challenge on David Garcia. The Madrid side were winning it but they almost let it slip from their hands right before the end of the
first half as they went down to 10 men because of Jose Antonio Reyes who got sent off.
The first half ended with the home team leading but with a man down. Espanyol were coming at them to score the equalizer. One thing is for sure, Espanyol are definitely going to attack to score goals and even find a win while being away from home. Can they
do it? This is a question which can only be answered after the full time.
