Copa Sudamericana: River Plate 4-2 vs. Guarani – Full Time Report
The Argentinean League was in full flow and along it so was the Copa Sudamericana. The Copa Sudamericana is CONMEBOL’s equivalent of the FA Cup in the English Premier League. The match that was going to be played tonight was between River Plate and Guarani.
River Plate are arguably one of the best teams in the region and Guarani, on the other hand, are relatively unknown and famous only locally. The match was, however, still expected to be a treat for the spectators, since both the teams that were playing tonight were reputed to be some of the best offensive teams in the South American region.
Before the match, however, experts strongly believed that River Plate would come out on top when the ninety minutes were up.
The match was scheduled to be played in the Centenario stadium in Montevideo, Uruguay. The officials for the game were Leandro Vuaden, who was the head referee for the night, and the two assisting linesmen, Alessandro Rocha and Carlos Berkenbrock.
The match kicked off in emphatic fashion, with both the teams going all-out from the very first minute of the game. Both the teams were playing some brilliant, tactically gifted football.
However, on the eighth minute, Guarani had the first goal of the game. Rodrigo Teixeira netted for the away team to the delight of the fans who were watching.
Still, River Plate are a team that can never be counted out. Soon after, on the twenty-second minute mark, the team had their equalizer thanks to a wonderful effort by Jonathan Ramirez, which saw the match go level with the score-line reading one all.
There was still more drama in the match. On the forty-fifth minute, Guarani were back with a one-goal advantage over the favourites, River Plate. Jonathan Fabbro was the player to get the goal this time.
River Plate didn't plan on take this beating lying down. The team surged one of the greatest comebacks ever seen. On the sixty-sixth minute, Jorge Zambrana struck for River Plate and drew the scores level once again.
On the seventh-fifth minute, Fernando Correa silenced any noise that the fans of Guarani were making, as he struck his first and River Plate's third goal of the night, hence resulting in the team taking the lead for the first time in the game.
On the eighty-sixth minute, it was Correa again. The player managed to sneak in his second and the team’s fourth goal on the night.
The match ended with the score-line reading four goals to two in River Plate's favour. It was a match that lived up to its hype and expectations. The fans of both the teams were treated to some brilliant football and would have no complaints with their teams’ performances. This win will give River Plate a strong footing in the competition even though it's still in its early stages.
