Copenhagen Masters 2011: Jan O Jorgensen topples Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk in Group 2 contest
Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen proved too strong for Thailand’s Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk as he defeated the Thai shuttler easily in the Men’s Singles Group 2 match at the Copenhagen Masters 2011, on Tuesday, December 27, in Denmark.
Jorgensen, who is World Number 16 at the moment, played on a completely different level of the game and easily tamed the lower ranked Saensomboonsuk. He took just 27 minutes in the court and thrashed his rival in straight games. The Thai failed to cope up
with the pace of rallies and lost the match without putting up good show.
The opening set of the match was stunning for the visitor as Jorgensen cheered the home crowd with his extraordinary performance and won the game with a stunning score. In the following set, Saensomboonsuk played competitive game but not enough to avoid
defeat from the hands of his higher ranked opponent, who finished the game with a comfortable margin.
In the first game, both players started the opening rallies in a fast way but soon Jorgensen took over the control. The score was 4-2 when Jorgensen geared up his speed and surprised his opponent by reaching at 11-2 until the one-minute interval in the opening
set.
After the break, Saensomboonsuk tried to stop the aggression of his higher ranked challenger but failed as Jorgensen was uncontrollable. The Danish played at his best speed and progressed in the match without facing even a meagre resistance. He did not miss
any chance to bury the bird into his opponent’s court.
Saensomboonsuk remained miles behind his rival throughout the opening game of the match. Jorgensen ended the first set with a surprising 21-6 score on the board.
In the following game, Saensomboonsuk changed his strategy and played fast badminton. He kept the bird low to put pressure on his opponent and remained close until 5-5 when the Danish occupied the driving seat.
Jorgensen started to execute strong pushes straight to the body of Saensomboonsuk and remained successful in setting up a reasonable lead of 11-8.
After the break, the Danish continued his domination in the game and maintained pressure on his confused opponent, who committed many unforced errors.
Jorgensen remained positive and finished the second game with a comfortable score of 21-16. This straight-set contest ended with a 21-6 and 21-16 score on the board.
