Copenhagen Masters 2011: Rajiv Ouseph overpowers Eric Pang in Men’s Singles Group A contest
England’s top player, Rajiv Ouseph, has established his worth as he has overpowered Nederland’s Eric Pang in the round robin match of Group A at the Copenhagen Masters 2011, on Wednesday, December 28, in Denmark.
Ouseph, who has been ranked at number 24 in the world standings of Men’s Singles, had to employ all of his skills to get rid of Dutch shuttler in a thrilling fight. He spent 42 minutes in the court and emerged as the winner of the match by putting up superb
show of fast badminton for three games.
The opening game was one-sided when the English player did not face any resistance and won the set with a huge difference. However, the Dutch powered his way back into the match by winning the second set with a decent score. But Pang failed to match the
speed of Ouseph in the final set and lost it in a completely one-sided manner.
Ouseph opened the first set in a controlled way and pushed his rival on the back foot. His impressive smashes landed on the side lines of the court and his net play was also perfect.
The Dutch failed to match the accuracy and speed of his challenger in the opening game as he executed many negative strokes. Ouseph ended the first game in style by ending it with a stunning margin of 21-11.
In the following set, Pang played better as he matched the speed of his opponent and also controlled the pace of rallies. The score remained close in the first half as both shuttlers remained toe-to-toe until the break.
However, the Dutch became aggressive in the ending phase of second game. Ouseph made a few mistakes and also became slow at this stage and consequently lost the set with a decent 18-21 score on the board.
In the deciding game, Ouseph showed no respect to his Dutch opponent and established an early lead. He was focused this time and did not make any mistake in the execution of strokes and remained successful in finishing the game with a remarkable margin of
21-12.
He emerged as the winner of this three-set match with a 21-11, 18-21 and 21-12 score.
