Copenhagen Masters: Inthanon Ratchanok stuns Tine Baun to grab Women’s Singles title
Thailand’s talented female, Inthanon Ratchanok, has made her presence felt to the world as she has grabbed the Women’s Singles title at the 2011 Copenhagen Masters.
In the title match, Thai shuttler defeated the home favourite and higher ranked Tine Baun of Denmark, on Thursday, December 29, in Denmark.
Ratchanok, who has been positioned at number 13 in the Women’s Singles world standings, played fabulous badminton and destroyed the hopes of Baun, who is currently World Number Five.
The Thai lady played flawless badminton and crushed the Danish rival in straight games by taking just 29 minutes in the court. Baun failed to play positive game in both sets and lost the match without impressing the home crowd.
Baun was the favourite on paper to win this fight as she has been playing impressive badminton throughout the year. However, she failed to dominate the game against the lower ranked Thai opponent and did not win event a single set.
The starting rallies of the first game were interesting when both ladies pushed each other in all corners by playing fast badminton. They remained close until 7-7 when the higher ranked Baun played well and reached at 11-7 until the break.
After the interval, the Thai shuttler accelerated her speed at net and played with precision from rear court. Her impressive semi-smashes along with net shots troubled the flow of Baun. Ratchanok levelled the score by reaching at 14-14.
The Thai female continued her dominating performance and maintained pressure on her higher ranked rival. Despite having the support of home fans, Baun failed to dictate the pace of rallies. Ratchanok ended the first set with a decent score of 21-17.
In the second set, Baun played a changed game and also accelerated her speed in all areas of the court but still failed to establish her domination as her opponent was also playing at same speed.
The score was 9-9 when Ratchanok score two points in a row to reach at 11-9 until the interval.
After the break, the lower ranked Thai shuttler maintained her control over the pace of the rallies. She did not let her rival to level the score in the second half of the game and ended it with a 21-15 score on the board.
The overall result of this Women’s Singles title match was 21-17 and 21-15.
