Copenhagen Masters: Jan O Jorgensen topples Viktor Axelsen in Men’s Singles Group 2 fight
Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen has proved his superior skills against his younger compatriot Viktor Axelsen and won the Men’s Singles Group 2 fight at the 2011 Copenhagen Masters, in Denmark, on Wednesday, December 28.
The World Number 16 Jorgensen showed his elite skills in the contest against the World Number 35 Axelsen who has been playing good badminton for the last six months. The higher ranked Jorgensen played to his full potential and ended the match in straight
games by consuming just 37 minutes in the court.
Axelsen failed to dominate the game against his higher ranked team-mate and lost both games with a decent score.
Jorgensen dominated the game from the starting points by taking an early lead. He played with incredible anticipation and made his opponent work hard for every point. Axelsen failed to play his normal game as his rival was quite focused in the match.
The superb defensive skills coupled with powerful smashes of Jorgensen helped him to maintain pressure on his younger compatriot. Until the one-minute break in the first game, Jorgensen managed a three-point lead of 11-8.
After the break, the higher ranked Danish shuttler remained on track and continued his domination in the game. Axelsen was also matching the pace of the rallies but his shot selection was not right as he missed many easy chances to score points.
On the other hand, Jorgensen did not let his opponent to play his normal game throughout the opening set and won it with a decent 21-17 score on the board.
In the second game, Axelsen put up strong resistance in the opening half as he played an attacking game and remained close until the score reached at 9-9. At this stage, Jorgensen started to play with precision and dominated the pace with a superb skill.
The higher ranked Jorgensen remained on track and showed no mercy to his team-mate in the whole game. Axelsen remained trailing as he failed to executive his shots in the right areas.
Jorgensen took the second game in a striking way with a 21-17 and 21-15 score on the board. The end result of this 37-minute straight-set battle was 21-17 and 21-15.
