Denmark’s young and passionate shuttler, Viktor Axelsen, displayed his elevated skills and won the round robin match in Group 2 against Thailand’s Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk at the 2011 Copenhagen Masters, in Denmark, on Wednesday, December 28.
Axelsen, who is currently placed at 35th position in the Men’s Singles world rankings, played remarkable game against the Thai rival and won the match in straight sets. He did not waste any time in the court as he took only 25 minutes to register his win over Saensomboonsuk.
The Thai shuttler failed to resist against the in-form Danish and lost the contest with a huge margin.
The Danish youngster worked hard in first set and won it with a good difference. However, he was everywhere in the court in the second game and finished it without facing even a meagre resistance from his Thai challenger.
In the opening game of this Men’s Singles encounter, both shuttlers remained close until the score reached at 3-3 when Saensomboonsuk took over the control and started to dictate the pace of the game.
The Thai maintained pressure on his local opponent by playing positive badminton in the opening half. Until the break, the Thai shuttler was in good position as he set up a wonderful lead of 11-7.
After the break, Saensomboonsuk remained on track and reached at 16-12 when his rival displayed stunning performance. Axelsen geared up his speed at this stage of the match and employed all skills to end the domination of his opponent in the game. He cheered the crowd by scoring 9 consecutive points and won the set with a 21-16 score on the board.
In the second game, Saensomboonsuk failed to produce good speed and also committed many mistakes. On the other hand, Axelsen was quite focused in the whole game and played to his full potential. He established a remarkable lead until the one-minute interval by reaching at 11-4.
After the interval, Axelsen continued playing at his best speed and maintained his control over the pace of rallies. The positive and planned badminton of the Danish helped him to win the second game with a one-sided score of 21-8. He finished the straight-set encounter in just 25 minutes with a margin of 21-16 and 21-8.
