Heyy thanx for reading. It'll be over soon, i promise...

Last year i got a pair of baby rabbits, old enough to leave mom, one was a netherland the other was a lion head, the dwarf died at 3 months, thats when my lionhead and i bonded.

She was my best friend, helped me through tough times, dealing with split parents, un popularity, and steppys...

This june Bella died.

10 months old.

Clean cage, fresh food, fresh water.

Here was her diet: Pet store food (i read the label to make sure it wasnt all chemicals), Fresh veggies and fruits (researched to make sure she could have). And filtred water.

She had a clean cage, lined with paper shavings.

The only warning i got was when she was gettin some TLC and bit me, which was the oppisite of when she would hop to the side of the cage and nuzzle my hand.

Normal pulse, pupils not dialated, no discharge...

I just want to know what killed her so i can stop blaming myself and stop crying every night...

  1. Only friend huh? Maybe he got rabies!! Go to a doctor fast! you might have rabies now!! And oh, by the way, I am sorry for your rabbit.

  2. My puppy is named Bella, I'm sorry for your loss.

Sometimes animals just die, it's the way of life. You will eventually get over this, but for now, you've lost a part of your family, so grieving is natural.

    My condolences for your loss.

  3. Sorry about you're Bella.

The only 2 problems I can see with what you said is the paper shavings, if you used aspen shavings these are good for rabbits. Pine and cedar are bad. Also, you did not list hay as part of her diet. I don't know if you just left this out in your explanation OR if you didn't feed Bella any. Either way, rabbits need hay, and if Bella didn't get hay, this is a big problem and greatly contributed to her death.

Otherwise, sometimes rabbits just die with no warning and by no fault of your own.

Again, sorry about what happened to Bella.

  4. I don't know what killed your little Bella, but I am sorry for you. i know it must be hard. i want to say it might have been a condition she already had, but im not sure. Again, I am sorry your bunny died

  5. Stop assuming that you have power over life and death. Death is part of life and that's not under your control. Sounds like Bella had a good life before her moment came. That's what's important.

  6. Get over it. Children die too.

  7. IM SOOOOOOOOOOOO sorry about ur loss my rabbit is like my best friend 2 and hes 8 years old almost nine and im so scared to loss him . just think about the good times not the bad times ok =]  take care

  8. It may not have been anything you did wrong or didn't do right, often purebreds (I'm assuming the rabbit was) have inherited problems.  There may not be any obvious signs, but that doesn't mean there wasn't a problem.

Animals tend to hide their condition until it's quite serious, and she probably was far enough along at the time she bit you that there wasn't much that could have been done.  Similar to people, when in pain we often lash out at even the ones we love to avoid being touched (causing even more pain).

Grieving takes time and runs it's course in various stages.  Self blame can be a part of that, even when there was nothing that could be done differently.
