Question:

Copper Titration?

We're going to be testing some copper sulfate/distilled water solutions, and I have some uncertainties:

Iodometric Copper Titration: What unit do your results come out in? Are these an indicator of concentration of copper ions, or amount of copper ions?

Complexometric Copper Titration: Which can you find: the concentration, or the amount of copper ions in the solution? I know that you can also derive an answer to the percentage amount of copper ions in the compound copper sulfate using this method.

If possible, please state sources. Thanks.

  1. Whenever you do a titration, you a calculating the concentration of the unknown.  But . . . if you take the concentration and multiply it times the volume, you get the moles of the species in question.  Concentration can also be converted to percentage.  So the answer to whether you get concentration, amount, or percentage is . . . yes.  You can get all 3 after some simple conversions.
