Cops, good or bad?

So before anyone response I realize that there are some good cops out there. So on that note how many of you think most cops are corrupt, bullies etc? I have never had a run in with the law..however I have seen friends harrassed and embarrassed while being pull over by an officer. I see so many horrible things on television...people with no weapons being shot 10 times or more...or zapped to death with a taser. I'm starting to believe that most cops are people with aggression problems and grudges...not wanting protect the public just wanting the power that comes along with it. Does anybody agree or disagree? I saw on my local news last night that a cop parked illegally for an our and didn't get a ticket. He was off duty getting food...why does he not get a ticket but our cars get towed and we have to pay a parking ticket and an towing fee. I would love to hear everyone's opinions on this matter even if you disagree. I losing much faith in those who serve and protect.

  1. There are good and bad in every profession.  The bad ones make the news, the good ones never receive recognition.  The bad stops of your friends stand out in your memory.  The good contacts are quickly forgotten.

About 10% of cops are bad.  Either on a power trip, or out to bully.  But most cops are there to make a difference.  Remember that they are paid to enforce the laws.  That means that sometimes they need to throw their weight around in order to get the job done.  The good ones feel bad about that, but still have to do that on occassion.  The bad ones live for that, and resort to that all too often.

  2. BAD and go to http://badcopnews.com and see for your self.

  3. No matter what they are rolling up on ,their life could be in an immediate danger of getting shot at.

You obviously arn't aware of all the dangers involved in being a police officer. While making life safer for everybody.

People that don't want a ticket and whine about it should obey the laws. They should receive extra benefits.

FOR PUTTING THEIR A.S.S .ON THE LINE FOR PEOPLE LIKE YOU !

  4. Some good, some bad. Bad those that are bad are real as*ho;les. She gave me a ticket for not completely stopping at a stop sign, when i see cops not completely stopping at a stop sign all the time. Certainly they are not good examples.

And another deluded cop decided to tow my car, becauseshe thought it was stolen, when in fact it is not.

  5. Good question, first, let me say this,my generation was brought up to respect police,or atleast my family was. Many of my relatives were and still are police officers.Ive personally seen the toll the job takes on a person,a family, relationships, and on life in general.Ive seen honest, good cops fall apart, seen the corrupt ones get away with just about anything,in either sense, its far from fair.To this day,and im almost 50,if i get pulled over,i treat the officer with respect, yes sir,no sir,yes maam etc.a  little respect goes a LONG way.If i feel im right and dont deserve the ticket, ill get my chance to say why,in court.

Now,as for today,I think, and I may very well be wrong, that alot of the newer officers are driven by fear,i mean,my god,30 years ago the criminals werent carrying automatic weapons and pulling the trigger at random, its insane, and i sure as h**l wouldnt want to be a cop in todays society,it has to be maddening, the complete and total lack of respect for the law the criminals, and even the general public show is disgusting. These people do go out everyday and try to keep some semblance of order,so to them,my hats off.

And as for the good /bad ratio,i dont know, like i said, motivation by fear makes you look like someone you truly are not.I do know there are bad cops,as there are bad

doctors, truck drivers, ditch diggers etc,its not just law enforcement specific. Some do want the power, but thats the same anywhere,in any vocation. So as in the other aspects of life, you take the good with the bad, these men and women are literally targets, daily for the scumbags of society,so maybe a little extra tolerance should be extended by the general public. As i said earlier,a little respect goes a long way,and so would a helping hand once in a while instead of ripping

    them new a******s.

And as for the cop who was off duty, parked, getting a meal,so what,if i were in the restaurant and knew he/she was there,id be happy for it,and i sure as h**l wouldnt care if  they were parked legally or not.

And by the way, cops are NEVER off duty.

For the most part, the good cops outnumber the bad.

  6. Well, you need to be more specific because  you list way too many generalizations. So what were your friends doing before being "harrassed" or "embarrassed"? And keep in mind that reporters on TV often show you what they want you to see or in absence of actual facts or understanding,  jump to conclusions. Like the "unarmed" person. According to whom? his buddies? or the Cop hating "witnesses"(who are usually the neighborhood thugs) that suddenly show up? There is often more to what happened that the one minute blurb the reporter states.

I have yet to hear of anyone being "Zapped to death" from a Taser. because if that were the fact, there'd be a lot of dead Officers that have been tased in training. On the other hand, I know of some people that have died after being tased because they have a near lethal level of drugs in their system.

I'll be the first to admit that no one is perfect and don't abuse their position, welcome to the human race. But I will take issue with Mizz, because her view that "Most" of us are "shitheads" sounds more like left over bitterness from not being suitable to the job.

EDIT-That's what I thought Mizz. There is a balance that you need to have of knowing when to be nice and when not to be nice when dealing with people. That difference keeps you and other Officers safe and alive.

  7. BAD.

  8. I was an officer for a very short time...

That being said, my response to this question is entirely too simple to really explain my true feelings but:

Many (not all) police officers are power tripping, egotistical sh*theads who don't know or care about the people they serve. They just want to be right.

But might does not make right.

PS mebe1042: I realized "most" wasn't the right word there and changed it. Outside of where I served, I knew plenty of genuinely caring officers. However, I was "not right" for the job because I was considered "too kindhearted" to be a police officer. If that doesn't leave a bad taste in your mouth regarding police work, I'm not sure what will.

  9. You could say the same thing about teachers, preachers, mayors, ice cream cone vendors, shoe shine boys, men's room attendants, waitresses, Wal Mart greeters, school crossing guards, nannies, cabana boys, tree trimmers, garbage men...etc.

I was a cop for nine years. Seen good ones and bad ones. Same thing with the public. Some are good, some are a waste of oxygen. They're people. Walk a mile, so they say, before you pass judgement.
