Cops going on your computer illegal without a warrent?

My sisters boyfriends probation officer looked on his and hers computer and put ntdetect.com on it..did not ask to go on it just went on the computer....should her bf ask him if he had a warrent? should they take that program off he put on?

  1. Under the auspices of the patriot act, local police and other such agencies can do what they want without a warrant.  Its done every day all day.  If ya trust lawyers (which I don't) you could ask them.  But I doubt even they have read the broad powers the PA has given enforcement agencies.


  2. A probation officer is not a cop. They do not need a warrant for anything. You did not say what he is on probation for, or the conditions of release. It is the same principal of the idea that he can come to his house any time of the night or day, follow him, etc.  

  3. The probation officer probably didn't need a warrant.  It may have been spelled out in the probation agreement that the PO was allowed to do it if he felt a need.

  4. Ntdetect.com is part of Windows. It has always been on there. You guys are paranoid. Lay off the hallucinogens for a while or something.
