Question:

Copying to dvd from sky+?

I have just got Sky+. The engineer says I can use the COPY facility to copy programmes recorded onto the Sky+ hard drive to DVD or to my laptop (and then onto DVD).

He also said I could copy to another hard drive connecting the drive by USB to the Sky+ box, but didn't know precisely how.

My TV is a Sony with two scarts. These are connected to the DVD player and the Sky+ box.

I don't have a DVD recorder, just the DVD player. My laptop doesn't have a programme to copy DVDs but can copy CDs.

I would welcome any advice from anyone who's gone through this themselves, and if necessary, can anyone recommend a DVD recorder that doesn't cost more than £150.00?

  1. I wasted a lot of time trying to use the copy facility on my Sky +box, coupled to a Video recorder via Scart( Not having a DVD Recorder), and it didn't seem to work. I simply select and start a recording on the +box & immediately pause it. I set the video recorder to AV2 and select and start say a one hour recording then restart the +box recording. The picture is live on the TV screen. You can pause to cut out the adverts.

There is no Usb socket on my Plus Box so unless yours is a later model, I can't see how USB connection is possible.

I don't know of any suitable conversion cables The possible connections from the +box are:

Sound - red and white Phono (composite) +yellow video cables.

Sound - red and white Phono + S Video cable on the +box( this gives better quality), but note the +box  SV socket is OUT (OK ) but the recorder SV socket must be an IN socket.
