Question:

Copyright Law?

I found this picture that has the L. Bamberger & Co. stamp on the back. This means it is copyrighted. The company doesn't exist anymore, becasue MAcy's bought it out.

Do i need to get a release from Macy's stating I can make copies of this picture or not?

  1. There is a duration period of Copyright to be ceased unless the rightfully owner renew the copyright again or the copyright of your picture was sold to MACY.

e.g. a century old classical note like beethoven is no longer copyrights - reason : he is death & passes the period of copyrights act protection.

Sold in copyright then u need a permission from MACY.

Sold in ordinary sales then u dun have to ask for a permit from them. Reason : L. Bamberger & Co did not assign them to be their rightfully owner of copyrights.

    Consult lawyer for MACY.
