Copyright laws uk? please help.?

hi people can u help me and my husband? We are opening our own custom tattoo designing business. the only problem is as you can appreciate that alot of our customers want desings that are similar or adapted versions of someone elses work. are we allowed to do this legally? when would we be infringing on copyright law? obviously we will be selling them so were un sure what to do? any help would be brill. thanks guys.

  1. Contact Own It.  They're an organisation that's brilliant on copyright in the creative industries, which I think your question covers.  You have to register on their site to access their information but it's free.  They also run excellent events on copyright in London.

  2. Check with the patent office website www.ipo.gov.uk  They have useful info on copyright

    Mind you, I can see some problems seizing the offending material!

  3. hmmm...obviusly a drawing is copywrited..but if you draw it wont it be slightly different?...if somone likes a tatoo of say,x*x from vin diesels neck,surly you could do it slightly different,,,bloody good question...ill be back later to seeif somone knows for deff....
