Coquet on her way to the Investec Oaks after a victory in the Height of Fashion Stakes
With all the winning elements, there was nothing that could stop Coquet from taking the victory in the Height of Fashion Stakes, which took place at Goodwood on 24th May, 2012.
Teamed with jockey, Robert Havlin, the bay filly banked on her status as a favourite at 100 to 30, and used it well to her advantage as she covered the 1 mile, 1 furlong and 192 yard course and took home the prize of £20,720.00.
The daughter of Sir Percy, out of mare One So Marvellous, narrowly broke through the wire first by a marginal difference of a neck over the Mahmood Al Zarooni trained, Minidress, whereas John Gosden’s charge, Gathering, finished third.
Coquet trainer, Hughie Morrison, was delighted with this victory - which came after a lay-off of six months. With this win safely tucked under her belt, she is on her way to compete at Epsom and participate in the Investec Oaks on 1st
June, 2012.
This victory completed the well-deserved hat-trick for the young runner, and most of the credit goes to rider Robert Havlin, who mounted her in all three starts.
The Hughie Morrison trained, Shirocco Star, is also on her way to the Investec Oaks as well after she ran a terrific race in the Swettenham Stud Fillies' Trial Stakes on 18th May, 2012, at Newbury.
Ridden by jockey, Darryll Holland, she fell a short-head behind the winner, Momentary, who is under the training of Michael Bell.
The race favourite, Starscope, fell short of the expectations, as she finished third and missed the victory by a margin of 3 ¾ lengths.
Morrison commented on Coquet’s performance and stated to the press that:
"I'm very pleased. She might not have the most ability but she's certainly the toughest."
Morrison added: "She was headed but the dream is still alive. She won't have to do much between now and then and we'll see what Robert has to say. That will bring her on an awful lot.
"Rab will ride her and I'd imagine Darryll (Holland) will probably ride Shirocco Star, but I'd need to talk to the owners."
