Coral Greyhound Olympic has its final six
The twelve remaining greyhounds in the Coral Greyhound Olympic competed at Hove on Thursday night in the semi-finals. Two races in which punters were paid dividends in ease as both favourites managed to cross the mark, who were the favourites? and which should I back for next Thursday’s final?
Ballymac William (6-5 favourite)
The Carly Philpott trained charge clocked the fastest time (29.60sec) in the second semi-final race on Thursday. This is just one reason why he has been installed as favourite for next week’s £5000 final.
Reason number two comes down to his excellent early pace, his clocked the fastest sectional time on both occasions in the competition so far which has to be the definitive edge he has over his opponents.
William made a trap two start in the opening race where he clocked a slightly better time by half a length and has been gifted once again with the Blue, but will be right beside his major rival Farley Blitz.
Farley Blitz (7-4)
The Barrie Draper trained charge took the first semi-final race in a time of 30.01sec, it was a race in which he was baulked and crowded but managed to recover quickly and beat Westmead Grant by half a length.
Blitz is also yet unbeaten throughout the competition and holds every chance to being crowned the new Coral Greyhound Olympic champion.
He also holds the fastest time in the competition (29.47sec) and will be making a trap one start next Thursday. If Blitz can get away from the traps then it could be a very close race between the two favorites.
Or it could also go horribly wrong for the duo that may just cause each other problems at the start to make way for one of the other contenders.
If you don’t fancy any of the favourites, a good value bet is on offer in the form of Westmead Grant (8-1). The Nick Savva trained charge is a suited wide trap runner and was very unlucky not to beat Blitz in the first semi-final as he did finish well.
Draw for Thursday’s £5,000 final: 1 Farley Blitz, 2 Ballymac William, 3 Challengingtimes, 4 Boolavogue, 5 Lethal Freds (m), 6 Westmead Grant (w).
Bettor.com winner prediction: T2 - Ballymac William
