Coral Sussex Cup – Semi-final preview
First semi-final (8.18)
Trap 1 – Deanridge Rage, Trap 2 – Movealong Vieri, Trap 3 – Paradise Alexus, Trap 4 – Borna Rocker, Trap 5 – Hallucination, Trap 6 – Farloe Skywalker.
BORNA ROCKER has shown recently that he is very suited to the running track at Hove and is still open to improvement. He had the classy Bower Eagle three lengths back in his heat, which proves the selection has leading claims to take the title for trainer Chris Lund. Paradise Alexus is considerably better than his previous run suggests and although he has to overcome a tough draw from trap three, he may be overpriced and could run a big race. Deanridge Rage held Movealong Vieri in the heats and should confirm that form and be in the mix come the finish.

Second semi-final (8.34)
Trap 1 – Ballymac Rumble, Trap 2 – Glynnscross Mal, Trap 3 – Head Iton Ellis, Trap 4 – Greenacre Josh, Trap 5 – Bower Eagle, Trap 6 – Sparklee Bernie.
Ballymac Rumble is becoming very expensive to follow for punters. He has finished second in his last four races and always seems to find trouble in running, probably best to stay clear once again. There are doubts about the trip for the fast-starting Greenacre Josh, who looks as though he needs shorter, he will probably lead-up and his connections will be praying for trouble in behind. This race looks set up for the fast-finishing HEAD ITON ELLIS (nap). The selection was unlucky not to make this year’s Derby final, coming a short head fourth in the semi-finals and he backed up that form with a win on Derby final night in the Plate, scoring by four lengths against top-class opposition. If he’s back to anywhere near that form, it will be a matter of not ‘if’ he wins, more like ‘how far’.

Third semi-final (8.51)
Trap 1 – Head Iton Jason, Trap 2 – Ballymac William, Trap 3 – Boolavogue, Trap 4 – Spinkys Nod, Trap 5 – Ballymac Well, Trap 6 – Cloheena Cash.
BALLYMAC WILLIAM was far from convincing in his first round heat victory, but remains unbeaten in five starts at Hove and can bounce back to his best this evening. He was sleeping from the traps last time out, but trainer Carly Philpott is renowned for getting her dogs to trap when it matters, so expect her hound to be firing from the lids this evening. Essex Vase champion Boolavogue is bang in form currently and should go well, along with Cloheena Cash who should profit from a plum draw from trap six.
