Coral TV Maidens heats from Romford recap
Three preliminary heats were run at Romford Monday night for the Coral TV Maidens Trophy. The top two hounds from each heat qualified for the £750 final over 400m which will be run on Friday night again at Romford.
Heat One
The first heat saw Moyar Champ take first place by a shoulder over Teflon Tim. Champ was quick from the traps and took the lead after the first bend, but had to fight hard to keep the lead from a pressing Tim.
Little Wizard, the 11-4 race favourite, couldn’t muster any magic after a very good start, and finished in third, a long 5½ lengths behind Tim. Behind Wizard by just over a length was Boo Boos Bella, who also got off to a good start, but wasted it on the first bend, quickly losing ground to the leaders.
Taking fifth spot was Blonde Charley, and in sixth was Droopys Teabag.
Heat Two
The second heat saw its favourite, Barnagrane Mark at 6-4, finish in first place by 3 ½ lengths over Blacknomilk, who was a 10-1 longshot. Mark finished the race with a time of 24.19 seconds, the fastest of the heats. Blacknomilk took advantage of a good start, and managed to stay ahead of third place finisher Droopys Ascot, and the rest of the field, on her way to earning a surprise spot in the final.
The bottom three finishers, who all came in with better odds than Blacknomilk and Ascot, themselves out of the race as they battled to get ahead of each other. Bubbly Africa took fourth by a head in a tight finish between the three, and Brykat Breezer took fifth over Rainham hunter by a neck.
Heat Three
It was a two-hound race in the third heat with Bright Redcliff finishing in first place. Redcliff finished 1¼ lengths ahead of Bigger Legend, who finished seven lengths ahead of third place finisher Kinda Razzle. Redcliff got off to a great start and was able to fend off 9-4 race favourite, Legend, who will be looking for a second chance to beat Redcliff on Friday.
Finishing in fourth place was Indigo Jackie, and behind her by ¾ lengths was Fawn Isaiah. In last was Jaytee Tiger.
Draw for Friday’s £750 Coral TV Maidens Trophy final: 1 Teflon Tim, 2 Bright Redcliffe, 3 Barnagrane Mark, 4 Blacknomilk (m), 5 Bigger Legend (m), 6 Moyar Champ (m).
