Question:

Cordless phone interference from wireless router?

I recently installed a Linksys wireless router in my home office, and I now get terrible interference on the cordless phone I use for work. There is a constant clicking noise in the background. I have tried changing phones and get the same noise interference. It is not really practical to move either the phone or router due to the configuration of my office set-up. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the interference noise on my phone? Thanks!

  1. If it's DSL, you need to install the phone line filters that came with the modem.

Or use a different channel on the wireless router.

  2. Wifi and cordless phones do work on the same frequencies and do and can interfere with each other.

Here are some things to try.

    1. Login to the router and change channels! It will be listed under wireless settings. 1,6.11 are usually the defaults try them all. (I am assuming you have an 802.11g/n router which is on 2.4 gig! - If you have and 802.11a 5.8gig it will have different channel numbers!) Try them all to see if there is one that doesn't cause the issue!

    2. Move the base units further apart - I know you said you couldn't but they are moveable - get resourceful!

    3. Change either the phone or the router to one that isn't using the same frequency range. There are 2.4 gig phones and 5.8 gig... if you have 2.4 get a 5.8 or even an older 900!

One of these will fix the issue. I use a two line cordless phone and a three wireless routers.. don't have an issue so the problem can be fixed!  The routers are about three to four feet away from the phone base and all are on 2.4 gig!
