So i dont like people calling after a certain time. I tell them but they do anyway. Is there a phone system that i can set a time for privacy mode and then give exceptions for certain numbers? Or some way i can make it so only people i give permission to can call after certain hours? (2line system?)

  1. Uhhh I dont think a land line, possible VOIP or a cell phone thats a tough one...

  2. I use to work night and sleep during the day, so phone calls became a major problem since most were telemarketers.  I found an answering machine with a break through code was a great solution.  I gave the code to people I wanted to be able to reach me any time, kept the ringer off and the volume on the answering machine off.  When one of my friends called the machine would pick up, they'd enter the code and my answering machine would ring, if someone else called they got to leave a message on the machine which I could check when I woke up.

  3. I know there are computer programs that will do that,  so only the calls you want will ring through.

  4. it can be done with a cell phone but not with a land line as far as i know. For a cell, there's lots of programs.

  5. I use tty. They have built in privacy on my tty machine. For your regular phone just turn off the ringer or get a cord with an on / off switch.

  6. I use the Privacy Manager, available from http://www.provacycorps.com  You can block all the numbers you want. You can set the hours for the phone to ring. You can move calls to an answering machine without bothering you. (You need Caller ID service for this to work.) You can even block all 'unknown' numbers, 800, 888, or any blocks of numbers. About $99.00....I like it lots... Takes a bit of learning, but after you get the hang of it....simple..

  7. Honestly the best thing to do is to call your phone provider and ask them about the different call features that are available, because there are so many different types that I never knew of until I spoke with them.

I know of features like call gate that functions as what your asking about, except it's strictly for outgoing calls, not incoming.  But you could use that as an example when you speak with a representative about it so they get the gist of what your talking about.

Here's an idea that could be helpful sometime in the future. I have Verizon, which use to be Bell/Bell Atlantic-not sure where you are but Bell south I believe would also be similar. They have a feature that costs a few extra dollars where you can program certain specific numbers to call you with a unique ring tone, and yes I am talking about landlines.  That way you would know by the ring who it definitely is or is not.

Also ask if there's a special call forward feature that allows only certain numbers to go through and the rest to go straight to your voice mail.
