Question:

Cordless phone will not work but non cordless phone does?

Hello, should cordless (not cell/mobiles) phones work at any telephone socket in the house?

My 'main' telephone' socket is not working, but the two other phone sockets in the house are. My fixed phones work fine on these 2 sockets. However when I plug in the cordless phone to either of these, it is silent and does not work at all. I have done this with 2 separate (oldish) cordless phone sets and neither works. Is this a fault with both the cordless phone sets or do cordless phones have to be plugged in to the Main telephone socket?

Thanks so much for your help.

  1. Have you tried resting the handsets in the main base unit?

Just place the handset in the base for a few seconds.

Do you have any lights on the units?  Like a charging or line in use light?

    Are these lights aglow?

AND be sure your cords are all connected firmly and the power source is active.

Last but not least use the trouble shooting guide in the owners manual.

No manual?  Go to the manufactures web site and find the manual online for your specific unit.

    Hope this helps!!

  2. Your cordless phones are faulty!! If you have dial tone with corded phones and no dial tone with cordless phones and they are plugged into the mains and the telephone sockets, throw them away so you don't forget they are duff. All UK phones work on all UK sockets and if they don't work then they are not compatable.

  3. Please remember you need phone line plugged into socket and power charger plugged into electric point.
