Question:

Core Training?

How many times a week should core training be performed? I perform it once a week on Monday along with legs and then focus on training other parts of the body on the rest of week (i.e. chest, arms, etc.). Can I do this or should I add another core training session? Thank you for your time and advice.

  1. try doing the core exercise more cuz that's like the main strength for running and if u want more speed do calf raises for ur calves to build calves calves will  give a stronger rate od speed

  2. well i usually do it at least 3 times a week. your core muscle is the center of alot of your strength when youre running...so be sure to do it enough to a point where you arent stressing your body but you are making it stronger.

  3. Three times a week is just right.

Please remember that you are trying to exercise muscle groups, not exercise isolated (individual muscles).

If you do sitting leg extensions for example you are working a single muscle, the quadriceps. Unfortunately there  are no physical activities or sports that require the use of that muscle in that way. You certainly do not use your quadriceps to lift sixty pounds when running. Training your muscles to do things they are not required to do during exercise IS NOT beneficial.

Instead do exercises that involve several muscles or muscle groups. Calisthenics are great for core training. Try sit-ups, crunches, push-ups, pull-ups, squats, calf-raises and dips.

If you enjoy lifting weights in the gym use machines or free weights to add difficulty to those basic movements. Be sure to use low weights and high repetitions to improve endurance.

Also, you can train three muscles every day of the week if you choose to. Those muscles are calves, abs and forearms (obviously forearm training is not very useful for runners).
