Corey Brewer has no complaints with New York Knicks – NBA Update
Corey Brewer has revealed that he harbours no ill feeling towards the New York Knicks management for their decision to let him go during the midseason trade window. The guard left the Knicks and signed up with the Dallas Mavericks
and was therefore able to win the NBA World Championship while the Knicks fell in the first round to the Boston Celtics.
Brewer was part of the trade that brought Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks from Denver Nuggets in midseason. Along with Anthony, Chauncey Billups and Anthony Carter also moved from Denver to New York, while Brewer went there from
the Minnesota Timberwolves.
After the trade Corey was looking forward to playing his part in a Knicks side that boasted super star forwards Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire, however the New York front office had other ideas. The Knicks bought out Brewer’s
contract and the player became a free agent over night.
In the end it seems to have been for the better as Corey went on to win the NBA World Championship with the Mavs, who beat the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. However Corey does admit that he didn’t intend on leaving New York and
though he had something to offer to the franchise.
"It was tough," said Brewer. "I liked being a Knick. I felt like I could help but they didn't feel the same way. No hard feelings. I got in a better situation. I finally won a championship. I would have wanted to stay here in New
York because New York is a great city."
New York struggled made the playoffs last season after acquiring Carmelo Anthony, but struggled throughout because of a lack of depth on their roster. That weakness was cruelly exposed in the series against Boston when both Amar’e
Stoudemire and Chauncey Billups suffered injuries, leaving the entire burden on Carmelo’s shoulders.
Brewer believes he could have been of help to New York at those times and would have generally added more depth,
"I felt I could have came here and I just wanted to help. I felt it was a good situation for me. Up and down situation," he said. "Play some D, though. I guess it didn't work out right."
The Knicks are once again looking at options to strengthen in the free agency, whenever it begins. Although Brewer is in New York, he is contracted to the Mavs now and came over to take part in a Dyckman League game.
Brewer enjoyed his time on the court playing, although there was a halt in play due to rain.
"We got to play outside. Then a little rain comes down. Moving in. It's packed in the gym. It's crazy."
