Corey Hart helps Milwaukee Brewers defeat Cincinnati Reds 7-2 – MLB Update
Corey Hart homered and scored four runs to take Milwaukee Brewers to a 7-2 victory over Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati on Tuesday, May 31.
The Brewers, which were facing a streak of six consecutive defeats and losing 12 out of their last 13 games, indeed owed this win to Hart.
Corey changed the entire outlook of the game in the third inning when the Brewers were in a leading position with 1-0.
Hart certainly knew how challenging an assignment playing the Reds would be. "Oh, these guys are tough," Hart said. "We play a lot of teams good, but for some reason this team is our nemesis. It's always a struggle. Especially playing them here is tough."
"I felt better than yesterday," said Hart, who lasted only five innings in a 7-3 loss on Monday. "I'm still not 100 percent. I told them I definitely am going to have to go out there and give everything. It ended up being a pretty good night."
Jay Bruce was first to score for Cincinnati when Zack Greinke was tasked with pitching for Milwaukee. Greinke came after Chad Reineke had already thrown a scoreless inning. Bruce singled to centre allowing Drew Stubs to score the first run for the Reds,
giving the team an early lead.
Reineke gave up three hits and allowed four runs in the third inning that proved to be ultimately advantageous for the Brewers. Nyjer Morgan was the first to score with a single to centre, as Hart struck the big hit.
Hart hit to centre to earn a three-run homer to give his team a 4-1 lead. The lead was effectively upheld until the fourth inning when Reineke scored a run for the Reds, bringing the lead down to 4-2.
The Reds’ offence then got virtually incapacitated in the face of Greinke, Marco Estrada, Kameron Loe and John Axford’s effective pitching. The whole team failed to face Milwaukee’s defence and remained constrained.
Jonathan Lucroy homered to left in the sixth, Hart earned his fourth run of the inning in the seventh and Rickie Weeks scored in the ninth to seal the Brewers’ 7-2 victory against Cincinnati.
It will be interesting to see how Milwaukee carries their winning momentum into their next game. The Reds put in a good performance, but it just was not enough for a victory.
