Corey Maggette rates Detroit Pistons young guns Greg Monroe and Brandon Knight – NBA Update
New Detroit Pistons recruit Corey Maggette gave his opinions on two of the franchise’s young talents, Greg Monroe and Brandon Knight. The veteran player had been impressed by both the young guns while playing against them and said he couldn’t wait to enter
the court as their teammate.
Brandon Knight was drafted by the Detroit Pistons last year and had a solid rookie season with the team in 2011 – 2012. He is seen by the franchise management as the long term point guard of Detroit and has the college credentials to back that up.
A traditional point guard, Maggette said he was impressed by just the confidence and composure of Knight, something not seen in player so young. The veteran who has over a decade of experience in the NBA said Brandon had all the right ingredients to become
a successful point guard in the future.
"I was very, very impressed with Brandon Knight, especially. The way he came in. A very poised player, can really score the ball, can really shoot the ball, make really good decisions."
Greg Monroe is the man Pistons originally hoped to build their team around. The young centre has grown in strength and stature since entering the league. His rebounding and defensive presence set him apart while the offensive part of the game is nicely coming
along for Monroe.
Maggette too has noticed the upward trajectory of Greg’s game and ranked him as a solid inside presence that can cause problems to the opponents on both offence and defence.
"For Greg, it's been improvement every single year from him, being a dominant force in the paint, taking his time, being in position where he can score the ball really well."
Monroe is arguably the best young centre in the NBA alongside DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento Kings and while Kyrie Irving stole the limelight in last season’s rookie class Brandon Knight integrated seamlessly into the Pistons setup.
Maggette is now hoping he can do the same after his trade to the Piston from Charlotte Bobcats, who got shooting guard Ben Gordon in return. While Gordon was more of an outside shooter Maggette is known to attack the rim and Pistons are hoping he would bring
something different to the team.
