Corey Main pockets Men’s 200m back-stroke gold: Day one – 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games
Corey Main of New Zealand pocketed the gold medal of Men’s 200m back-stroke on the primary day of the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games on Friday, September 9, in Isle of Man.
The 16-year-old Kiwi won the respect of the arena by submitting a marvellous time of 1 minute and 55.44 seconds for the gold medal. He was trailed by Grant Halsall of IOM, who remained almost two seconds slower than the gold medallist and occupied silver
medal of the event, by reporting in a time of 1 minute and 57.29 seconds. Similarly, Christopher Van de Sande remained 1.99 seconds behind the silver medallist and completed his swim in a time of 1 minute and 59.21 seconds for bronze medal.
Van de Sande transpired as the fastest swimmer in the first-half of the race, where he completed his swim in a time of 56.63 seconds and stayed ahead of Main and Halsall. Nevertheless, Main overwhelmed Sande’s effort in the third lap of the swim and continued
the same in the final lap, where he gained a comfortable lead over his fellow swimmers and reached top of the podium.
Sande was followed by Robert Gerlach of Australia, who posted a fourth finest time of 1 minute and 59.50 seconds. Gerlach was followed by Lewis Smith of Wales, who stayed almost three seconds slower than his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 2 minutes
and 02.28 seconds for fifth position.
In the meantime, Joshua Booth of Scotland transpired as the sixth position holder of the event by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 04.31 seconds. Eugene Tee of Australia surfaced as the seventh position holder of the event, as he ended his swim in a time
of 2 minutes and 04.60 seconds. Jian han Tern of Malaysia was the eighth finisher of the event, as he concluded his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 04.68 seconds.
Main expressed contentment over his victory in the back-stroke discipline, while the championship will conclude on September 11, with the completion of all swimming events.
