Corey Patterson shines as Toronto Blue Jays outclass Texas Rangers 6-4 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays’ outfielder Corey Patterson made three runs with two outs during the fifth inning as the club defeated the Texas Rangers 6-4 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on April 25.
Patterson said of his performance, “The past few games, it seems we really couldn't get anything going offensively besides Jose swinging the bat well. We definitely need to help him out. It seemed like I was able to help jump-start the team.”
Corey struck a home-run in the fifth inning against the Rangers’ starter Colby Lewis. It was such a huge shot that went out of the ballpark. Jose Bautista was the other batter who hit a home-run in the fifth inning to extend the Blue Jays’ lead to 6-1. Bautista
was leading the Major League with eight home runs.
The Blue Jays’ starter Kyle Drabek had a notable day with the ball, as he played his role in the victory. He allowed three runs on five hits including three earned runs and two strike-outs in six inning pitches. Drabek gave the Blue Jays a sigh of relief
in three continuous starts. Drabek expressed his excitement as, “It's always nice to get a win. All the guys, they're really just telling me to stay relaxed. I tried to slow the game down, stay relaxed throughout it.”
The Jays’ closer Jon Rauch pitched the ninth inning for his fourth save and performed really well, as he permitted just one run on a single hit including one strike-out. Rauch gave one leadoff home-run to Nelson Cruz. The Blue jays’ batters did pretty well
with the bat as there were no outs until the fourth inning even after the fly-ball of Adam Lind towards the left-field position. Patterson got out while stealing third base for a single.
The Jays’ Manager John Farrell was content with the performance of Patterson as he said, “It was good to see Corey Patterson take a pitch that might have been somewhat of a setup pitch on an 0-2 count up and away from him. To see the six runs on the board
was obviously good to see, and we made it hold up."
For the Rangers, David Murphy was tremendous on the field as he sent back the runners to the bases with a running catch. He took another outstanding catch on the fly-ball of Patterson in the seventh inning. Elvis Andrus got Yunel Escobar out just before
his single towards first base. Yorvit Torrealba hit a home-run for the Rangers at the end of the fifth inning.
Lewis pitched badly as he gave away six runs on seven hits including six earned runs and had only three strike-outs in five inning pitches.
