Brazilian side, Corinthians, have reportedly opened talks with Luisao’s agent to secure a move for the Benfica captain. The defender was linked with a switch to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer but instead he snubbed the French giants and reiterated that
he would end his playing career at Estadio da Luz.
Arguably the finest defender in Liga Sagres, Luisao, has been the hub of the Benfica backline ever since signing for the Lisbon outfit in 2003.
With his reassured performances alongside his leadership skills, the centre-back has long defended the Benfica ranks and has also captained them to glory on several occasions.
Although his chances of leaving the Stadium of Light are quite slim, Paris Saint-Germain tried enticing the player in the summer.
Backed by the billions of their new owners, Les Parisians were willing to cough up a hefty €14 million to secure Luisao’s services during the break and the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cruzeiro-c38870 also hinted that he might accept their offer.
However the Reds were determined to hang on to their man and convinced him to pen a long-term deal at the helm. Following his contract extension, the Brazilian International himself revealed that he now intended to stick with Benfica till his playing days
are over.
Though that hasn’t prevented Corinthians from launching an ambition bid for the experienced 30-year-old.
The Coringao have reportedly conducted talks with the player’s agent and it is believed that the two parties might draw up a potential transfer.
Although negotiations have taken place, Luisao currently has a buyout clause of €20 million, a figure well beyond the reach of the Brazilian Serie A side.
If the veteran had been younger, a move could have warranted such an amount but since he is edging ever closer to retirement, dishing out a hefty transfer fee would not be the wisest course of action for the potential suitor.
Nonetheless Corinthians remain determined to add a seasoned figure into their defence and in Luisao they have the absolute perfect match. The only thing that remains now is convincing Benfica to let go of one of their idols on the cheap.
