Question:

Corn Boiling Water Color

I was boiling some sweet corn, and the water turned deep red. We were out, and thought it might be the water, but we went home and it turned a deep brown. Any ideas as to why this might have happened?

  1.   dirty corn or something on the corn

  2. Next time, instead of boiling, try microwaving the corn.  You can do it in the shucks, just peel off the outer leaves and leave a few on and microwave for 3-4 min. per ear if you like it crisp or a little longer if you like it well done.

Or, you can shuck it and wrap it in wax paper.  Use about 18-20 in. per ear.  Lay the ear near one corner and roll then twist the ends.  Micro. for 3-4 min. per ear but reduce the time per ear if you have several at one time.  Careful, the corn will be very hot and steamy when you remove it.

  3. if there was field corn in there then yes some field corn does turn red, it's the iron in the soil
