Question:

Corn Snake Question... Help Needed!?

I bought an Albino Corn Snake on monday thats about 2 years old. When i bought him, his colours were vibrant Orange, but 3 days later he's gone really pale and dull, I was told he could be due for a shed, but i'm not too sure as i've never owned one before.

I've read up on how normal Corn Snakes shed, with the blue eyes etc... though i cant find much info on Albino Snake when shedding.

Here is my Snake on the day of purchase with vibrant Orange colours:

Here is my Snake today looking quite a bit paler than usual:

Could anyone familiar with Albino Corn Snakes give me a little information on this? He doesnt seem to be sick and is still active when held.

  1. he is probably in shedding process .it can take about a week to shed maybe more depending on the snake. Make sure he have a water bowl big enough for him to soak his entiere body in it so it will helps shedding and you can moist a bit the bottom of the tank( with a spray bottle that have never contain chemical product) to be sure it have a good shed. the best for it is to shed in ine piece. after it shed look carefully to be sure that there is not pieces of the old skin on its body. especially at the end of its tail.

  2. he is getting ready to shed it is no big deal.

  3. He is just getting ready to shed thats all. B

  4. He should be fine. When ever they get palish they're just sheding. However, if he sheds his skin but is still palish there might be something wrong. Don't worry though. He's just shedding. He'll do it on his own.

  5. As the owner of a Albino Corn snake; he definitely looks like he is in shed. It is a bit hard to tell when you are new to albino snakes as they often don't take on the 'blue' tinge that other snakes do; but they do pale out considerably, have rougher-feeling scales, and their eyes are less clear than normal.

A quick warning; while my own female Albino Corn will take food regardless of if she is in shed or not; many snakes will refuse food during shed, so if you are still planning on feeding him on tomorrow; be prepared for him not to take it. :)

For further reading; here are a couple of great websites that discuss shedding in Corn snakes and snakes in general:

I hope this helps, and if you have any further questions at all on the subject; please feel free to message me and I will be more than happy to assist you. :)

Good luck with your Corn snake!

  6. Cute Snake First Off.

Don't worrie that is just the start of the shedding cycle,he should shed within the next week and a half.

and he'll look all pretty again lol

I have a baby corn and i cant wait till she gets big:).

    Good Luck

  7. It's hard to tell from your photos whether or not there's a problem, but if he's eating well you have little to worry about. All snakes get pretty lackluster when they're about to shed.
