  1. You need something to work the ground with, something to plant the corn with, something to cultivate the corn with, and something to harvest the corn with.  Or someone to hire to do some or all of those tasks.  It is no harder to have a large field really and I would consider the whole 15 acres a small field.  Are you planting sweet corn or field corn?

  2. I don't know what you call a small corn field........but we had about 2 acre's when I was a kid.........and we had an old fashion corn planter and the way we went........you know the soil conditions of your farm........we were lucky and could dig a well 12' deep on one corner of our property and have plenty of water for the crop. We had an old wood marker that we build to drag behind a farmall cub to mark the rows and good soil a full 12'' deep so the rest is history......My dad taught me that 3 seeds to a hill was good that's why he put 7 so that if we lost some we would just tranplant them after they came up..............my job was to hand hoe them and till between the rows......then go back and hill them a bit.....the answer for us was a lot of sun and water........once it is up to knee high you can't water it enough........our crops were beautiful......ears were close to 12'' long.........so hope this helps...........sounds like you got plenty of fertilizer around:) go for it. Oh bye the way........we had all the vege's in our farm...you name it we had it.........just no melons.....but pumkins also..........lots of everything........my mother canned it or did something with it............had food all winter....it's neat kids don't know what they are missing.

  3. I think in another 20 years from now owning a farm, even a small farm, will be considered more high-class than a 3200-square foot home.  Prices are never going to come down again and growing one's own food is slowly becoming en vogue again.
