  2. corn needs warm soil with a lot of nitrogen. This is why many farmers alternate corn with soybeans in a rotation. Soybeans "fix" nitrogen from the air into the soil. Standing water is very bad for corn, so good drainage is a must. hot, humid days and cool nights make for a great crop. water every 15 days is a must, plus, when the corn is almost ready, you need even more rain. There are lots of diseases to corn so a schedule of pesticides and antifungals is important. (unless you find some of the new modified corn seeds that are resistant to almost every known disease!!)     Cow manure is a great fertilizer BTW.
