  1. Cornea does not separate from the eye except by an injury caused by sharp instrument.Cornea becomes thin after ulceration. Decemet`s membrane is the thinnest layer of cornea.A deep ulcer causes destruction of the cornea and causes Decemet`s membrane to protrude under pressure from aqueous humor causing Decemetocele giving the appearance of separating of cornea


  2. Trauma is most likely. The cornea is layered similar to an onion. If you try to remove a deeply imbedded foreign body with the wrong instrument, you can do more harm than good.

  3. On the other hand, retinal detachments are fairly common.  Maybe that is what you are thinking of?

  4. Trauma, perhaps a sharp object "slicing" at the eye.
