Cornel Loubser pockets Women’s 100m butterfly gold: Day five - South African LC Nationals
Cornel Loubser of NFS-NF pocketed gold medal of Women’s 100m butterfly in the Multi-Class category of S14-S15 on fifth day of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Friday, April 20.
The 17-year-old Loubser enjoyed a lead of almost half a minute over her subsequent swimmer, Leanne Sterrenberg, and reached the finishing wall for gold medal.
The 17-year-old Loubser remained dominant over her challengers throughout the double lap butterfly event as she cruised her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal by posting a time of 1 minute and 09.16 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Sterrenberg, who stayed nearly twenty-seven seconds slower from her former finisher and tapped the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 36.65 seconds for silver medal.
The 30-year-old Sterrenberg was trailed by Dot Smit of SWD-SW, who stayed almost two seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 38.62 seconds for bronze medal.
Smit was chased by Christel Kriel of MP-MP, who occupied fourth position of the discipline by ending her swim in a time of 1 minute and 42.87 seconds.
The 17-year-old Kriel was followed by Cornelia Fowler of KZNA-KZ, who ended fifth in the event with the timing of 1 minute and 47.09 seconds.
In the meantime, the crowd witnessed ruthless efforts of CGA-CG’s Natalie Du Toit in the 100m butterfly in Multi-Class S1-S13 category.
The 28-year-old Du Toit proved her mettle for gold medal of the discipline by posting a time of 1 minute and 12.34 seconds.
She was chased by Adri Visser, who settled on the podium for silver medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 11.01 seconds.
The 24-year-old Visser was chased by Shireen Sapiro, who finished third with an effort of 1 minute and 16.72 seconds while Tezna Abrahams earned fourth position of the event by hitting the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 46.42 seconds.
In addition, the winners were called upon the victory stand for their notable efforts after the completion of session.
