Cornel Loubser seizes Women’s 200m freestyle gold: Day seven - South African LC Nationals
Cornel Loubser of NFS-NF seized gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle in the Multi-Class category of S14-S15 on day seven of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Sunday, April 22.
The 17-year-old Loubser served notice of her talent by accomplishing gold medal of the event with the timing of 2 minutes and 20.35 seconds.
Her fabulous effort remained nearly one second ahead of Yvonne Smith of Fsa-FS, who occupied silver medal of the discipline by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 21.08 seconds.
The 21-year-old Smith was chased by Christel Kriel of MP-MP, who suffered a deficit of nearly twenty-five seconds from her preceding swimmer and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 46.57 seconds.
Kriel was chased by Cornelia Fowler of KZNA-KZ, who stayed almost four seconds slower from the bronze medallist and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 50.86 seconds for fourth position.
The fifth best spot of the event was occupied by Leanne Sterrenberg of WPA-WP, who stayed nearly fourteen seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and touched the wall with an effort of 3 minutes and 04.93 seconds.
On the other hand, Natalie Du Toit achieved gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) in the Multi-Class category of S1-S13.
The 28-year-old Du Toit sprinted her way towards the finishing end for gold medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 37.30 seconds.
She was followed by Emily A Gray of NTS-NT, who finished her swim in second place by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 50.19 seconds. The third spot of the event was obtained by Renette Bloem of WPA-WP, who stepped on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by producing an effort of 3 minutes and 30.50 seconds.
Bloem was chased by Maritz Snyders of KZNA-KZ, who ended fourth in the event with the timing of 3 minutes and 13.60 seconds.
In addition, the championship ended after the completion of all listed swimming events while the winners raked medals after the session.
