Cornelius Bundrage looking forward to defend title against Cory Spinks via knockout – Boxing News
Cornelius Bundrage, the current IBF light middleweight champion, will defend his title against Cory Spinks, the former IBF light middleweight champion, in a 12-round bout to be held on June 30, 2012.
The duo will headline the pay-per-view organised and promoted by Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions.
The ring for the showdown will be set at Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, California, United States, and it will be televised live on Showtime’s weekly Saturday night boxing show.
The pay-per-view will also witness Gary Russell Jr in action against Christopher Perez in a non-title 10-round featherweight bout.
This will be the second time Bundrage, 25, will collide with Cory. In their first clash, it was Cornelius who rose at the occasion by technically knocking out the then champion Spinks.
The Detroit Michigan proud then moved on and successfully defended his newly acquired gold against Sechew Powell. In his last two bouts, Cornelius has displayed impressive pugilism and has clearly proved his critics that he has evolved into a flawless pugilist
altogether.
With 31 wins in a total of 36 bouts, Cornelius is making a comeback after almost a year and is looking forward at collecting another win over Cory. During a recent media workout session, Cornelius shared his thoughts about the bout and his resolve at knocking
Spinks out again.
While mentioning his last 12-round clash with Sechew, Cornelius, widely known as ‘K9’, stated, “I’ve been promoting this fight, so I’m quite sure a lot of people will be watching. I think it’s going to be a great performance. I didn’t expect I would fight
Cory Spinks like that the first time. I expect to fight him differently this time, but I might just go out there and bulldog him again. Cory Spinks is not the champ anymore. I’m the champ now. I’m more experienced now. In my last fight I defended my belt against
the guy I lost my first fight to (Sechew Powell) and went 12 rounds.”
The bout will be a classic as Cory will look forward to avenge his prior loss to Cornelius. Moreover, for Bundrage the bout will be a test to prove that it was not by a stroke of luck that he was able to nail experienced Spinks rather it was his impressive
pugilism that enabled him to do so.
Cornelius has pinned 18 of his opponents by knockout whereas Spinks, also known as ‘Next Generation’, has collected just 11 of his total 39 wins by knockout.
