Cornelius Bundrage ready to defend his IBF light middleweight title against Cory Spinks – Boxing News
Cornelius Bundrage, the current IBF light middleweight champion, is scheduled to defend his title for the second time against fellow countryman Cory Spinks, the former IBF light middleweight champion, in a 12-round bout which will take place on July 28,
2012.
The above duo will co-headline the pay-per-view which will be televised live on Showtime’s weekly Saturday night boxing show. The ring for the bout will be stretched at San Jose, California, United States and the showdown will be headlined by the WBC welterweight
championship bout between Robert Guerrero and Selcuk Aydin.
Cory recently shared his thoughts about the upcoming engagement during a media interaction and said that he will take back what rightfully belongs to him adding that he does not care about where the ring is stretched or what the critics are hypothecating
about him.
Spinks added that he will silence his critics by his impressive in-ring performance and by the knockout that Cornelius will receive. Interestingly, the bout is somewhat more than a ‘battle for the title’ since this will be the second time that both men will
stand against each other.
Cory, 34, also wants to avenge his former loss to Cornelius Bundrage, a bout in which the latter successfully defended his title by collecting a fifth round technical knockout win over former.
Spinks has been in a total 45 bouts and boasts 39 wins with just 11 of them via knockout. His opponent, Cornelius has been in a total 36 bouts and emerged victorious in 31. The world number three light middleweight has collected 18 of his total wins by knockout.
Cory might make big claims but a critical analysis of resume of both men shows that Cornelius has a clear upper hand over Spinks. Bundrage understands the strategy and the game plan of his Saturday night challenger very well therefore it will require Spinks
extra effort to prove his claim.
With the decent knockout and win ratio and the considerable reach advantage, Cornelius can easily replicate the same performance as he put forth in his last bout hence overcoming Cory’s southpaw stance and his huge height.
Even with the odds against him, Spinks is optimistic and commented, “I didn’t care if the fight was in Florida, California or wherever, I just want my title back. I read what the supposed to be experts said but that doesn’t matter at all. They are going
to be saying something different after I beat K-9 and get my belt back.”
The bout will definitely be a stiff one since Cornelius has vowed to defend his title as he did in August 2010 and Cory needs to not only grab the title but avenge his prior defeat. In addition, both men reside in the top 10 world ranking which is evident
of the fact that both are top-notch pugilists.
