Cornerback, Cortland Finnegan, yet again tangles in deal controversy with Tennessee Titans – NFL News
It looks like that the cornerback, Cortland Finnegan, is going to be tangled in another controversy around the possibility of an extension into his deal from his team, the Tennessee Titans.
A year earlier, a similar situation had forced him out of the team’s training camp before start of the 2011 National Football League (NFL).
Somehow he survived the scare and was able to play for the side for another year without any problem whatsoever.
He again faces the difficulties in renegotiating his contract, which is seemingly a routine matter for him and the team.
As of the latest, both parties are reported to have come together at the negotiations table recently without revealing much about outcome of the meeting.
The player’s agent, Terry Watson, confirmed that he was going to meet Titans’ management in Indianapolis next week, reflecting on the chances of reaching a decision or finding some sort of direction on the issue.
He said:
"It is more of a wait-and-see situation, depending on how the conversation goes when we do meet at the combine."
Watson also revealed to have met with the team’s general manager on past Friday and discussed the pending matter of his client’s contract renewal.
He added:
"It is up to the Titans to be able to show Cortland what their mind set is, where things are. And the only way that can be done is through the use of numbers composed in a contract of some sort. That, in essence, is where things are at this moment."
Titans have not spoken of anything on the future of the player at the franchise, but admitted being in talks with him on the likelihood of a contract extension.
The team also has an option of franchise tag to lock in the player before he approaches the free agency, which will make him prone to signing by any other team on the NFL.
His agent’s remarks have apparently reflected on his willingness to continue playing for the side for more seasons to come, and, therefore, is seeking the contract renewal.
The possibility has turned out in a controversy amid differing statements from both the sides.
In the case of him being tagged by the Tennessee Titans, he is expected to earn about $10.5 million of the cornerbacks’ current value in the market.
Next few days are expected to be very important in terms of clearing the situation, and more likely to determine the player’s future course.
The Tennessee Titans had great success in the 2011 NFL season with the record of 9—7 and were unlucky to have missed on the chances of making it to the playoff round due to development of an unexpected and unfavourable situation on the league’s points table.
